Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Small Budget

Walt Disney Pictures have decided to hold back on spending for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean 4. There was an article by The Los Angeles Times saying that the studio discussed having Johnny Depp's charater Jack Sparrow stay on land as much as possible. The reason was that shooting the film on the high seas was expensive.

Other budget cuts were on location of production. Instead of filming in LA and the Caribbean, they decided to shoot in Hawaii and London, for more favorable tax credits. They also cut from 142 shooting days to 90 - 95 days. They also cut to 1,300 to 1,400 visual effects instead of 2,000.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is being directed by Rob Marshall and should be hitting theaters on May 20, 2011.
